Ensemble Oikos was founded in 2013, in Montevideo, Uruguay, by Maite Rodríguez, with the purpose of exploring 20th and 21st century a cappella choral music - both sacred and secular - from Latin American and European composers, with particular interest in Nordic music.
Our intention is creating a space for musical expression and growth, that promotes and aproaches choral music to different audiences.
The music of our time written for our voice, inspired in nature, in humanity, from our continent or from distant lands, resonates within all audiences, and allows us to contemplate from a distance, landscapes, ideas and affections.
Ensemble Oikos performs annually at the Quinta Vaz Ferreira Museum, and in the Santa Lucía celebration organized by the Instituto Cultural Suecia Uruguay. We also participate in several choral festivals and encounters in Uruguay.
For the 2019 season we are working on a project where choral music will be part of an integral multi-sensory musical proposal: scenic, visual, literary and sonorous.
We are a group of mostly amateur singers, people of all ages and backgrounds, united by our passion towards music and choral singing.
Our musical work is encouraged through retreats with workshops and other activities where human bonds strengthen and music interpretation deepens.
